Thoughts on the video on Comprehensive Assessment: An Overview

After watching the video, i find that performance-based assessment is an effective way to test students' ability in leaning. Indeed, different students have different learning styles. we cannot expect every student to have the same learning style as some students are good in certain areas and some are not. For instance, students who are good in memorising might perform better when it comes to test-based assessment but not to those who are weak in memorising. Performance-based assessment can then help those who are weak in memorising to perform better and to become more productive. It is because students are tested based on their ability through practical in performance-based assessment. Test-based assessment is more likely to test on students theoretical knowledge whereas performance-based assessment is to test students overall performance. I think it will be the best if this 2 kinds of assessment can be done at the same time.

3 things I like about Anderson's article

The first thing i like about this article is that it explains clearly about both the traditional assessment and the alternative assessment.

Second thing i like about this article is the idea of the need to shift from traditional assessment to alternative assessment. It is a need to shift as different students have different learning styles. Students excellency in certain areas cannot be proven by pen and paper but it can be proven when they are given hands on activities as some students are not good in memorising they are good when it comes to doing hands on activities or practicality. Moreover, having examinations using pen and paper does not prove that a student is good in the real world.

Next thing i like about this article is that it stated clearly about the comparison of traditional and alternative assessment. We can see how they are compared the the difference between this 2 assessments in different area.
